THY BOARD-DOM: FOOD AND BOARDGAME CAFE

DSC_0002

Can’t believe that the first month of 2016 is already ending tomorrow! Time really flies extremely fast. Lot of things has happened last year. Plenty of experiences and lessons learned. And I’m sure this brand new year has a lot to offer as well most especially brand new experiences too! First on the list, my first time trying out a cafe that is not just a typical one, but is actually a board game kingdom too! Just by reading its name, “Thy Board-dom”, you’ll get the concept in your mind already.

As my friend Louisse and I had set foot in the place, I already felt that I’m going to love this cafe because the interior is just so clean and neat-looking and has this fresh vibe that I prefer.

As well as these ones hanging on the wall. We were even told by the owner that the blue painting illustrating fishes, which is from Vietnam, had captured the attention of a customer who once visited their cafe and actually wanted to buy it from them but the owner nicely explained that it was not for sale.

Unlike most cafes that open late in the afternoon, Thy Board-dom opens around 12 noon (and closes around 9pm or later around 12midnight depending on the number of customers they have) so you could go as early as that time and could have your lunch there! They offer not just coffee and snacks, but also different dishes to choose from. As soon as we got there, we were ecstatic to see that we’re the first customers hence we could explore the cafe and could capture unlimited photos freely and with ease. The owner, Ms. Sharon, along with her son, Kevin, and Pedro, their other staff (also Kevin’s friend), are really very welcoming and friendly. Being greeted by them with all smiles made me feel comfortable and just enjoy every corner of the cafe. For me, that’s a big impact because how can you fully enjoy a cafe with the staff not friendly and welcoming? After all, a part of us of course desire for a sense of belongingness every time we spend an hour or two in a cafe.

As I’ve mentioned earlier in my post, this is not just a typical cafe that most of us know. As the name entails, “Thy Board-dom” (thy boredom), is an amazing place where you can enjoy two things at the same time – food and boardgame! Yes, talking about hitting two birds with one stone guys! 😀

Another big thing (literally) that would catch your attention is this blackboard that serves as a freedom wall for everyone to write on, may it be a hugot line, a scribble, random drawing, and even your personal site which we did! What adds to the fun is that you can choose from the different colors of the chalk available and go be a kid once more. 😉

You could just imagine the struggle I had when writing my site because of my lack of height, obviously. LOL 😀 But well, I can always utilize the bottom part of the blackboard just like what I always do way back in grade school and high school, and college. Hahaha!

While still waiting for our food order, we take a look at the board games available for us to play with. Unfortunately, we’re both noob at this kind of game. These board games seem to be complicated for me just by looking at the box details and realizing they were games involving strategic decision. I personally think these are more suited for guys mostly because it’s in their nature to have this kind of skill and they have higher interest playing these ones.
DSC_0024

We were told that board games which can be played within 30 minutes are free of use. But those played in a longer period of time (some requires an hour or even more), the customer will be charged Php100 for it, the fee is per board game, not per head. Sounds just fair, right? 🙂

Luckily, they also have coloring books, action figures and other games for those who prefer.

They also have this boardgame promo facilitated by the BROs, Boardgame Relations Officer (what a cool idea!), and they even handle events and parties so feel free to contact them if ever you’re interested. Details below this blog post.

They also have specials every once in a while so customers could try their featured food. They regularly announce it thru their Facebook account.

And different deal packages were posted in their wall indicating the food included and their prices each.

And the food is ready! The first thing we tried is the Thor’s Thunder which to me is like heavenly fries because it has the perfect amount of taste for a fries, not too salty, not too cheesy, just the way I like it.
IMG_1021

And this Tropical Fruit Punch which we expected to be just as usual as the other ordinary iced tea, but turned out to be the best! It has this four seasons kind of taste but on a higher level. The owner said it’s her own recipe. Actually all of the food in the menu is her own creation. She works in the office on weekdays and is a talented chef on weekends. She told us that spending time on her cafe on weekends cooking food is her way of escaping the exhausting busy corporate world. She lets out her creativity and passion in her cafe and also interacts with their customers. What a modern wonder woman! Just wow. 😀

And of course chicken is always present 😀 Double Chaos Wings are the bomb! I’m not a fan of spicy food but this made me appreciate it though I could not take the intensity, but this is the delicious kind of spicy!

And this one’s my favourite! A Poem of Bragi is the best quesadilla I have tasted so far. Its cheese is so palatable as well as the other ingredients and the salsa.

And this version is just the same quesadilla but with added minced beef to it.

Next up! Great Odin which is composed of a yummy burger and cajun fries on the side.

And to complete our food trip, here comes the dessert! 😀
IMG_1027

For our drinks, Double Choco Chip Frappe for Louisse and then Caramel Macchiato for me.
IMG_1026

We shared this brownie with vanilla ice cream on top. Yum!

Besides the cafe’s own dessert, they also collaborated with TJS Bakeshop and offer these heavenly cheesecakes!
IMG_1024

We had the Blueberry Cheesecake and Salted Caramel Cheesecake and we can say these did not disappoint us at all! Each gives off the perfect taste of a cheesecake, not so sour, not so sweet, not so cheesy, just the exact balance of those three!
IMG_1048

While we have our chitchat, we were approached by the staff and nicely asked us if we wanted to try to play a boardgame. We did not hesitate to say yes even though the fact that we both have zero knowledge of the mechanics. Haha!
IMG_1040

They chose “Betrayal at House on the Hill”, a strategy game which seems interesting and also mysterious but really gave me a headache afterwards! Haha 😀 The struggle is real when you can’t relate to the game but you badly wanted to get in and function with the team.
IMG_1041

IMG_1045

As you can see those guys behind my friend, they were playing different game as well. We were told that customers are also free to bring their own toys and gadgets and play there and invite friends over.
IMG_1049

IMG_1050

We still enjoyed it though because the staff were just so cool and friendly! They were really nice and patient enough to help us understand every bit of the game and joined us in playing.

These are the wonderful people behind this amazing cafe. From left to right: Ate Day-Day (Ms. Sharon’s assistant), Ashi, Pedro, and Kevin (the cool BROs), Kevin also the son of the owner, and then the wonderwoman slash talented chef slash BFF you could tell stories with, Ms. Sharon! 🙂 Tell you what, they would really make you feel at home in their cafe. It’s like you have here an instant mother and cool brothers!

You could take a peek on their menu here and if you want to know more about the details of the food my friend Louisse and I have tried, kindly click here for her blog post about this experience.
DSC_0005

And also, not to forget, they have a comfort room for everyone to use and we are giving a thumbs up to this cafe for a clean and well-maintained bathroom! It even has a mini garden inside. 😀
IMG_1037

I’d like to thank Louisse for this great experience with her in this cafe. More to come Mars! 😀
DSC_0003

And also, big thanks to this cafe which I consider one of the bests. With the excellent quality of food, perfect ambiance, good people and service, and nonstop improvement, I believe this cafe will go far. Can’t wait to bring my family and friends there and try another new board game! 😀

Thy Board-dom Cafe is located at 2nd floor unit 9 Dahlzette Platz Building Molino 2, Bacoor, Cavite. Reach them at 0916 229 9109.
